Dill FactoryRichmond, VirginiaThe Joseph G. Dill Tobacco Factory building was built as a 4 -story, brick industrial building. In 1941, the upper stories were removed due to a fire. This building is part of the same block as the American Tobacco building, and our project was to create additional apartments that could take advantage of that buildings' amenities and infrastructure. The Third and fourth floors of the Dill factory were rebuilt and another building was built adjacent to it. The two buildings are connected with glass hyphens to accentuate the difference between the new and old structures. The project contains 55 apartments, a small retail space and covered parking. The development is using state historic tax credits.
