Shockoe Commons1209-1215 East Main Street, Richmond, VirginiaShockoe Commons was $4 million project that utilized both state and Federal Historic Tax credits in renovating an existing 44,000 SF retail building into 45 apartments, 3 retail spaces and basement parking. The project consisted of three buildings, two of which were historic "iron fronts". The third was the home of the Crump Saddlery. The buildings make use of the rooftop for decks for viewing the city. The apartments have an interior skylit atrium, skylights, and light "tubes" to bring light to the core of the building. The interior finishes were salvaged wherever possible. Existing features of the building such as old elevators, stairs railings, fire doors and panels were rescued to provide a sense of the history of the buildings.
