Wilson Residence

Virginia Beach, Virginia

This house originated as an aluminum-sided 2-room beach cottage that had seen several additions when our client purchased it in 1991. The additions were of substandard construction and were demolished. Two challenges of the project were that the renovated structure had remain in the original footprint and any additions had to be built out of the flood plain.

Saved from the demolition was the cladding of the house, cobblestone removed from the streets of Portsmouth in the 1960s. Great effort was made to move the myriad of additions into a new cohesive plan while keeping as much of the stonework as possible.

The material used include stone and white cedar for the exterior walls, prefinished metal for the roof and eaves, and mahogany and cherry for the exterior trim.
